About the Course

Conflict is a healthy part of relationships, teams and community. How do we make it an opportunity?

This experiential 8-hour course builds on participants' existing wisdom to develop basic language, concepts and skills of healthy conflict resolution and restorative practices. Expect to be energized and empowered to enhance restorative practices in your work and life. The course will also prepare you to take intermediate courses in mediation and restorative practices including Mediation and Restorative Justice Conferencing.

Approximately one hour of preparatory homework is expected as part of this course, including taking and reviewing results from the Conflict Styles Matters assessment

The highly interactive session builds a supportive learning community that explores:

  1. Conflict & Harm - Awareness
    1. Conflict, Harm & 'Healthy Conflict'
    2. Conflict Styles Assessment and Reflection
    3. Collaboration and the Third Party - Mediation and Restorative Practices
  2. Culture and Inclusion
    1. Bias and Multipartiality
    2. Navigating Mainstream & Margins
  3. Communication and Restorative Listening Practices

    2. Naming and Affirming Emotions – Empathic Listening
    3. Facilitating Clarity - Interests vs. Positions
