Learn to Facilitate Circle Process Dialogue

Join us in experiencing and learning how to convene a Circle Process for groups of 5-20 people to build community, address harm, and cultivate a group's listening and resolution of challenging issues.

This experiential training introduces participants to key principles and practices of Circle Process, a restorative practice adapted from numerous indigenous traditions and taught to Advoz trainers by contemporary field leaders Kay Pranis and Charito Calvachi-Mateyko.

The course content of this Circle Process training includes: 

  • Applications and Adaptations of Circles - Community Building vs. Harm Circles
  • The Medicine Wheel and a Structure for the Circle
  • Opening the Circle, Groundrules and the Talking Piece
  • Questions to Ask
  • Closing the Circle
  • Competencies and Readiness for Circle-Keeping
  • Participant Practice Circle Keeping
  • Considerations for Trauma
  • Considerations for Marginalization
  • Co-Facilitating and the Process for Advoz Circles
  • Roundtable Panel with Experienced Circle Keepers

This training will take place:

  • Thursday, September 19, 2024: 9 am - 4:30 pm
  • Friday, September 20, 2024: 9 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday, September 21: 9 am - 4:30 pm

Please note that this training includes approximately 1.5 hours of homework for a total of 24 training hours.

Note, to qualify for the Volunteer Rate, we ask that you:

  1. Have an interest, passion, and basic skills for listening and working with people
  2. Be available 3+ hours average/month over the next 1-2 years
  3. Complete the introductory course in Conflict, Communication & Culture,
  4. Apply to become a facilitator/mediator; go to advoz.org and click Volunteer at the top right of our website
  5. Live or have recently lived within commuteable distance of Advoz (South Central/Southeastern PA). If further away, you could still be eligible but primarily only as a co-facilitator for online cases.
Cancellation/Refund Policy If you find it necessary to cancel your registration, please contact the Advoz office immediately at AdvozAdmin@advoz.org or (717) 397-2404. Upon request and at least 14 days before the event, you may transfer 100% of your registration fee to another Advoz training/event in the next 12 months or receive a 75% refund. Within 14 days of the training, requests will be considered on a case-on-case.
